My wife Linda and I have been fortunate to travel to China with our friend Dr. Peter Jiang to assist with medical clinics and health education in rural China near Dr. Jiang's home village. This area of China is not frequented by tourists and many of the locals had never before seen Caucasians. As we walked about many heads would turn including bicycle and scooter riders. We worried they would crash but they never did. Rewalking the same route each day we gained familiarity. The shoe repairman inspected my shoes and glued the loose sole. He would not accept payment from us so the next day we brought him a new T-shirt. That was OK.
